BookMood ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights over it.

Information we collect

  • Account info — your email address and first name when you sign up. We use Supabase to store this securely.
  • Reading data — books you scan and save, moods you log, fortune cookies you open. This is tied to your account so you can see your history and shelves across devices.
  • Anonymous usage data — basic counts like how many scans you've made today, for rate-limiting and abuse prevention.

What we don't collect

  • We do not collect your contacts, location, photos, or device identifiers.
  • We do not sell your data, ever.
  • We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

Camera access

BookMood requests access to your camera so you can scan book barcodes. The camera feed never leaves your device — only the ISBN number is sent to our servers to look up the book.

Photo library access

If you choose to save a shared fortune card or shelf image to your Photos, BookMood needs permission to write to your photo library. We never read your existing photos.

How we use third-party services

  • Supabase — secure storage for your account and reading data.
  • Google Books and Open Library — public book information lookups by ISBN.
  • OpenAI — generates bullet summaries and mood match scores. We send only the book information (title, author, description) and your mood text, never your account email.
  • Resend — delivers transactional emails like verification and password reset.

Your rights

  • You can sign out at any time inside the app.
  • You can permanently delete your account at any time from inside the app: tap Settings on the home screen, then Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and removes your profile, mood history, saved books, quote jar, and shelf decorations. Your email becomes free to sign up again whenever you like.
  • If you can't access the app for any reason, email support@bookmood.app and we'll help.

Children

BookMood is rated 4+ and not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
